Elon Musk’s X platform allowed checking the location of accounts. It turned out that thousands of right-wing users in Poland and the USA do not actually live in the country he writes about every day.
The administration of the X platform allowed all users to see what country a given profile came from. We now see the writer’s location under the username and profile description. The Internet quickly became full of screenshots verifying accounts previously considered Polish.
“Musk introduced a nice option – you can see where the account was created or where the administrator currently resides. And I have a lot of POLEXIT accounts of ‘Polish Poles from Poland’ (usually additionally supporting the Russian narrative) located in the Netherlands and with a shield symbol with an exclamation point on the side. What does VPN mean,” wrote publicist and analyst Jarosław Wolski.
“Which is not surprising because VPNs eagerly used by Russians and Russian propaganda centers connect through the Netherlands. This has been a known fact for a long time,” he added. VPN stands for “Virtual Private Network”,which is an encrypted Internet connection that allows you to hide the user’s real IP address.

Jakub Wiech from the Defence24 website also showed screenshots of accounts posing as Polish patriots and the extreme right. He indicated that they come from,among others,from Belgium,Belarus and even Singapore. The Rodacy Kamraci account and the account of Grzegorz Braun’s party – Korona Warszawa were also registered in the Netherlands.
The examination of the American far right was very interesting. Many people supporting the MAGA (“Make America Great Again”) movement turned out not to be American patriots,but foreign trolls or bots from Eastern European countries (e.g. Macedonia),as well as Bangladesh,Nigeria and Thailand. Let us add that we are often talking about accounts with reach of millions.
The X platform itself noted that sometimes the region may be related to a recent trip or temporary move. However,X’s director of product,Nikita Bier,assured that the accuracy of user location is “almost 99.99 percent.”
